HOW ARE YOUR FRUIT SPREADS MADE?
We make all of our fruit spreads by hand, in micro-batches using water bath canning (a traditional method of preserving food) to ensure safety and quality.
WHY ARE SO MANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS FRUIT SPREADS? WHAT IS A FRUIT SPREAD?
To comply with labeling regulations, each batch of our fruit spreads and preserves is measured with a Brix Meter. This tool tests the soluable solids in our products and indicates what number they are on the brix scale (which goes from 1-100). Most traditional jams and jellies must have a brix reading of 65 and above to be labeled as such. Often, these traditional products have very high amounts of added sugars and sweeteners that contribute to this reading. Because we use very low amounts of organic cane sugar and no added, or artificial sweeteners, many of our products are fruit spreads and are below 65 on the scale.
WHAT IS ARONIA?
Aronia is a 'super berry' that is extremely high in antioxidants and has been said to have numerous health benefits including cancer prevention, aiding in blood sugar regulation and anti-inflammatory properties. We are one of the first growers of this crop in the Pacific Northwest. It looks much like a blueberry and is often sought for its juicing qualities. We encourage our customers to research the wonderful health attributes of this berry!
WHAT IS HASKAP?
Haskap, also known as Blue Honeysuckle, is a berry with high levels of Vitamin C, anthocyanins, Potassium and other antioxidants. They have a flavor that some describe as a cross between a blueberry and rhubarb (sweet-tart). This is an amazing berry for eating fresh, in smoothies and for baking.
WHY ARE YOUR TABLE GRAPES UNIQUE?
We are proud to be among the first table grape growers in Oregon. We grow several varieties of high quality seedless table grapes. These varieties are bursting with flavor and are not given any growth hormones but are allowed to mature to their natural cluster size. What you end up with are grapes that taste completely different from what is commonly found in larger chain stores and are loaded with antioxidants.
ARE YOUR FRUIT SPREADS, PRESERVES AND SYRUPS VEGAN?
They are vegan. We use no animal ingredients of any kind, and our organic cane sugar is produced without the use of bone-char.
ARE ALL OF YOUR INGREDIENTS ORGANIC?
As of right now, our farm is not certified organic, although many of our practices are natural and sustainable. We do use organic ingredients (such as our sugar) whenever possible.
DO ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS CONTAIN HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP?
No. We don't add any high fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives, flavors or coloring. Everything in our products is all natural.
HOW LONG DO YOUR CANNED PRODUCTS LAST? HOW SHOULD I STORE THEM?
Unopened, with the seal still intact, our preserves should last up to a year. They should be stored in a cool, dark, dry place for best quality. Once opened, store in the fridge and enjoy within 3 weeks.
DO YOU FARM FULL TIME? WHY ARE YOUR PRICES DIFFERENT FROM CONVENTIONAL GROCERY STORE PRICES?
We farm full time as a family. We hand create each artisan food product and spend time making sure our berries and fruits are grown to the highest standards. Our prices are often higher than conventionally made preserves because our product quality is higher, we create each jar by hand, our ingredients are often fresher (we don't include any artificial flavors or preservatives) and this is our sole living. We have to cover our time in the field, our time in the kitchen and other overhead costs that come with running a farm. When you purchase from us, you are directly supporting our family and other small businesses in the community that supply some of our ingredients.
ARE YOU LICENSED TO MAKE YOUR PRESERVES AND TO SELL MEAT PRODUCTS?
Yes, we are fully licensed to make and sell our products. We comply with all local, State and Federal laws to ensure safety.
THERE ARE CRYSTALS IN MY CLASSIC GRAPE FRUIT SPREAD WHEN I OPENED THE JAR OR AFTER IT HAS SAT IN THE FRIDGE. WHY IS THIS AND IS IT SAFE TO EAT?
These crystals are tartrate crystals and are formed by the naturally occurring tartaric acid in grapes. The crystals are perfectly harmless and in no way affect the safety of the food product. We try to prevent these crystals from forming but, occasionally, they do (especially after refrigeration occurs). Larger food processors often use corn syrup to prevent this from happening - we never use corn syrup or any artificial ingredients. If you would like to talk to us about an exchange or refund because you don't enjoy the quality of the product, please contact us. We want you to be happy with our product and will work with you to the best of our ability!
DO YOU HAVE RECIPE OR PAIRING SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR PRESERVES?

HOW ARE YOUR ANIMALS RAISED?
We believe in keeping our livestock in small numbers to maintain a healthier, happier environment for them. As a result, our meat products taste fresh and delicious! Our animals receive daily one-on-one care and are treated humanely from start to finish. We keep things as natural as possible and our livestock never receive any unnecessary additives or antibiotics. Any grains that are fed are from a local, century mill that we provide a great deal of our farm wheat to. Fruits and vegetables that are provided are from our farm's market garden and orchard. All processing takes place in a USDA approved facility to ensure the safety of the final product. We love our animals and care about treating them well!
ARE ALL OF YOUR ANIMALS PASTURED?
Our lamb, ducks and chickens are pastured. Chickens and ducks are supplemented with a no corn, no soy laying ration. Our pigs are not pastured at this time but are raised in very small batches and given plenty of room to have a happy, humane life. As weather permits, our rabbits are put into mobile grazing pens to have access to fresh forage. They are also fed high quality, local feed and grasses.
